This gorgeous little decorative bowl has a distinctive spiral pattern on the interior with a flecked light green background, and a dappled blue and white background on the exterior. This bowl
has an elegant curved rim. There is variation and texture within the colours of the enamel and the bowl has an irridescent surface that gives them luminosity.
During her career Monica Murphy has attended many short courses in painting, drawing and other media - including mosaics, ceramics, portraiture in clay, stone carving, and now enamelling. The speed of execution in enamelling, together with the fact that an intuitive style of work is involved, mean that no two pieces are the same - and its limitless possibilities never cease to engage. Enamelling is the process of melting glass onto metal, in this case onto copper. Each piece is a combination of many separate layers and firings of enamels.
Although enamel is a relatively robust medium, care is still necessary to avoid damage. |
