This jewel-like little decorative bowl has a snowy white and dark green variagated pattern on the interior with a vivid green/light green lightning flash design on the exterior. There is variation and texture within these colours and the bowl has an irridescent surface that brings a luminosity to all the colours.
During her career Monica Murphy has attended many short courses in painting, drawing and other media - including mosaics, ceramics, portraiture in clay, stone carving, and now enamelling. The speed of execution in enamelling, together with the fact that an intuitive style of work is involved, mean that no two pieces are the same - and its limitless possibilities never cease to engage. Enamelling is the process of melting glass onto metal, in this case onto copper. Each piece is a combination of many separate layers and firings of enamels.
Although enamel is a relatively robust medium, care is still necessary to avoid damage. |
